BJJ British Open

This year at the British Open saw some more memorable experiences:

Jonathan Wilson fighting in a heavier weight bracket, convincingly  beating four opponents for the Gold in Adult White Middle Heavy.

Akeem Khan fittingly won the finals against someone wearing exactly the same gi that had caused such a fiasco the year before. Four fights against some very confident opponents and Gold in the Adult Blue Heavy division

Tough lessons for some of the others who fought. Special mention for Aubrey Sykes who beat three of his opponents, two with triangles from scrambles.

Also doing well, were friends that train with us when they visit, Panayiotis Constantinides winning Bronze, and Mustafa Yunis, Hamza Afridi & Elliot Clarke winning Silvers.

Finally are training partners from London, Inglorious Grapplers (who we now fight for) winning numerous medals, to name a few: Max Bickerton Double Silver in the Adult Purple Middle Heavy & Absolute; Rich Evatt winning Gold in Masters Blue after many tough fighters and a monster case who didn’t know throttling someone with an open hand on the windpipe was illegal. Where do some of these guys come from?

No rest for the wicked and, after yesterday’s rant on the facebook group about how we could all do better by being “The best partner there can ever be”, today saw a big turnout. Drills, warm up rolls, heavy specifics and warm down rolls, 2 hours of bliss
